Patrick Swayze Dies at 57 – He Will Be Missed

I just heard the news about the death of Patrick Swayze today, September 14th, 2009. It's very sad news indeed.

My impressions of Mr. Swayze are of a man who was always a fighter, fighting the deadly cancer that finally claimed his life.

I have heard that he was always very gracious and friendly with he fans.

Patrick Swayze is recognized as an accomplished actor, dancer and singer. His talents will be truly missed.

We are blessed with some absolutely awesome movies, though. Two of my favorites are Red Dawn and The Outsiders.

Our sympathies are with Mr. Swayze's family and friends.

Please take some time, sit down and watch one of his movies. Maybe Point Break or Dirty Dancing.

And, please do not waste your money on garbage like The National Enquirer, The Star, The Globe or any of those other rags that can't leave our 80s Icons alone!

National Lampoon’s Vacation 26 Years Old

National Lampoon's Vacation from the Summer of 1983 - One of the best movies of the 80s.

The Griswolds have planned all year for a great summer vacation. From their suburban Chicago home, across America, to the wonders of the Walley World fun park in Southern California, every step of the way has been carefully plotted.

Except for a few hysterical exceptions.

National Lampoon's Vacation is 26 years old and still a goofy comedy classic thanks to a great cast and an exceptional group of comedy writers and great directing.

Revenge of the Nerds – 1984

"Adams College has the best computer department in the country."

These guys would have become the Bill Gates or Steve jobs of our day. Maybe they would get the girl. They'd have the money and the power.

Stair-diving?

"Times are changing Betty. These nerds are a threat to our way of life."

College freshmen Skolnick and Gilbert form their own fraternity for computer-whiz misfits. In this college campus comedy, a group of nerds must overcome the scornful attitudes and derisive pranks of the football and fraternity groups.

Rocky IV is a 1985 Classic worth watching

How about this? Rocky IV in it's entirety. This movie from 1985 will inspire you and it will move you to greatness. If you let.

It's an 80s movie that is unforgettable. One of 1985's Best Movies.

Stallone's new menace in the ring is a 261-pound Russian fighting machine (Dolph Lundgren), and now, Rocky must defend his title and America's honor.

There were many lighter movies in 1985, including the first in The Back to the Future Trilogy, Romancing the Stone, Splash and Footloose. Maybe that is one of the reasons this Rocky is often considered the best, and last real Rocky Movie.

The cold war symbolism from those years, the music and the 80s clothes, all make this a good example of a great 80s movie.

Thanks Hulu for another excellent movie from the 80s.

Private School from 1983 is 80s Retro Cool

Private School - Starring Phoebe Cates is about a young high school couple experiencing the first pangs of love and acting accordingly.

Enjoy this enticing mixture of comedy, romance, and the erotic!

Phoebe Cates was the star of Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Sean Penn, who? She stole she show.

A little Stray Cut Strut from The Stray Cats. Porky's meets Police Academy. This movie has a very limited target demographic-high school students in the early 80's, which I was.

Lots of gratuitous nudity and trite humor, which isn't all bad if you're looking for something to numb your brain for a little by drawing blood away from your head and into your pants.

Phoebe Cates is definitely cute but personally I think Betsy Russell is hot, although I'm pretty sure it was the other way around when I was in high school.

Similar to the movie Porky's, it does not share the same notoriety as Porky's.

The is an excellent representation of a crude 80's movie. This is definately not Sixteen Candles or Pretty in Pink.

No John Hughes, teen loses himself, then finds himself again formula here.

Flashdance Shows Off 80s Dance and Style

flashdance_l1While a typical 80s movie, Flashdance stands out for it's total 80s vibe.

The year was 1983 and MTV and the movies were breaking new style boundaries.

There is a scene in among all the dancing and drama, in which Jennifer's character and her best friend are dancing their way through the city life after work.

High as critics heap their scorn (Roger Ebert, who included the MTV-slick Cinderella flick on his all-time Most Hated list, was not alone in his loathing), they are no match for good old Hollywood magic.

Starring Jennifer Beals, then 18 and a freshman at Yale, as an exotic dancer with a dream.

Beals' character holds a day job as a welder in a Pittsburgh steel mill. Many of the dance routines were performed by a professional dancer.

It's mid afternoon and as they walk down a long back street, there's a lone break dancer with his piece of cardboard there in the middle of the deserted street shreddin' it up.flashdance-comp

As the girls linger there a while several other dancer's show up and join the street dance.

Eddie Murphy Raw: Watch the Entire Concert Film

How about that? Eddie Murphy in the most popular stand-up comedy film ever! This beats Robin Williams and Richard Pryor for total 80s cool.

Eddie's planning to quit acting and get back into stand-up comedy.

He's been a top box draw for thirty years. Eddie Murphy's made some timeless films. 80s movies like the Beverly Hills Cop series and Trading places are eighties classics.

Let's hope Eddie's serious about doing stand-up again and doesn't fade away like Jerry Seinfeld and many others.
