When you look back at the last four to five decades the 80's seem to stand out. Throwing a 80's party is one of the best ways to relive the 80's.

The time period provides to some of the best 80s costumes. The 80’s were when times were simple, and big hair was in. It was the decade that dared to wear Day-Glo wardrobes, and danced to Flashdance and Footloose.

This was a decade driven by music such as Madonna, Wham and Prince. The decade that brought the first wave of Glam metal (big hair bands) into the mainstream with bands like: Motley Crue, Twisted Sister, and Quiet Riot. When movies like Top Gun, An Officer and a Gentleman, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Breakfast Club and Say Anything became every teen's rite of passage.

So much happened during the 80's, that it makes throwing different types of 80 costumes theme parties very easy. A popular 80's theme is a Madonna or Prince party. Both of these icons had so many different looks, that it will give your guest with plenty to choose from.

80s Fashion Looks for Women – Hair, Clothing and Accessories

The 80s was one of the most remarkable decades ever as far as fashion was concerned. 80s fashion involved not only clothing, but also accessories, hair and makeup. For women, the hair was as important as the outfit.

One of the hairstyles that women coveted in the 80s was called "big hair" or "skyhigh hair." This involved teasing your entire head of hair so that it became about three times its actual size, but the biggest part of your hair was definitely the bangs.

You were to curl them, tease them, and then cover them with enough hairspray that when flattened, they would spring back to attention immediately. Some would say that the Aqua net used to hold this hair in place is a big reason our ozone layer is in trouble.

Another 80s fashion look for hair was the side ponytail. Mallrats and celebrities made this hairstyle popular and what made it even better was not only if you had your hair in the side ponytail, but if you added extra fun to it by crimping it (making it look wavy) or by adding the huge bangs along with the side ponytail. Pop icons like Debbie Gibson and Tiffany wore their hair this way which made it popular among all women in the 80s.

Mr. T on 80s Fashion

This video personifies the 80's. Look at the hair, listen to the music, and behold all that is the ultimate 80's nightmare. Edit: I have no idea what it means to "table" the label, but make sure ...

Mr T is so gay in this video!

Flashdance Shows Off 80s Dance and Style

flashdance_l1While a typical 80s movie, Flashdance stands out for it's total 80s vibe.

The year was 1983 and MTV and the movies were breaking new style boundaries.

There is a scene in among all the dancing and drama, in which Jennifer's character and her best friend are dancing their way through the city life after work.

High as critics heap their scorn (Roger Ebert, who included the MTV-slick Cinderella flick on his all-time Most Hated list, was not alone in his loathing), they are no match for good old Hollywood magic.

Starring Jennifer Beals, then 18 and a freshman at Yale, as an exotic dancer with a dream.

Beals' character holds a day job as a welder in a Pittsburgh steel mill. Many of the dance routines were performed by a professional dancer.

It's mid afternoon and as they walk down a long back street, there's a lone break dancer with his piece of cardboard there in the middle of the deserted street shreddin' it up.flashdance-comp

As the girls linger there a while several other dancer's show up and join the street dance.

What People Wore in the 80s

80s clothes and accessories are very unique and identifiable as 80s. I wore the Springsteen cut-off denim jacket, for one. I also had a Member's Only Jacket back then. What 80s clothes did you wear back then?

80s clothes and Fashion Accessories

The 80s clothes were about a feeling great and having good time. Tight jeans are back, off-shoulder sleeves are visible in most teen fashions, mixed up colors are back, dark color big bangles are back as well, don't forget the flat pumps that young girls wear today, all from the 80s.

Back in the 1980s, music culture was very different! In contrast to punks the wearers made an effort to look flamboyant in an attractive, luxuriant, beautiful, narcissistic way. Power dressing, New Romantics, sportswear and stretch dressing gave the women of the 80s a wide choice of fashion trend to follow.

Eighties fashion is almost as big as it was in the 1980s, but the question remains ? 80s fashion is generally derided, but in retrospect, I am starting to think it was possibly the most stylish recent decade fashion-wise.

Eighties fashion had spontaneity, and thinner people to wear it. Eighties fashion, more than that of any other decade, was concerned with status, power and glamor. The fashion of the eighties is coming back into mainstream American pop culture. In fact, it never really left.

Shoes, earrings and stuff

80s Community Blogs

In today’s eclectic fashion world, there are many elements that first came to light in the eighties. Ballet shoes are all the rage again now with the kids. In the 80s they were slightly different, more like a real ballet shoe. Now they are ballet inspired flatties.

However, I have seen some shoes that could have come from the depths of my cupboard where they have lived since the 80s. The earrings the youth are splashing about are exact copies, in many cases- from the 80s. I for one remember getting about in my rainbow colored, shiny drop circle earrings made of only the highest quality plastic.

They are everywhere again, even in the same sort of shops. Little holes in the walls of malls, stocked to the rooftop with silver and plastic glinting “must haves”. ;How come if they are all wearing it again now, and you can get it for $20, new - so you look like you are from the 80s. But, if you want to buy something that is actually FROM the 80s, which is the same, it’s called vintage or retro. AND, you will pay more than $20 for it!

Learn More About Fashion

Are you watching fashion shows? I do and I like fashion in general. Don't you find it odd that some of your friends will give their opinion about your relationships, but they will have anything but praise for the way you dress. You could be one of the most atrocious dressers out there, and they will still complement the way that you are dressed. I guess it's just one of those quirks of our society. Fashion tips are not easily given. I think this is regrettable. Many people could do with some fashion suggestion. I know because I am one of them. I have always been completely blind to the latest fashion trends, and it has made my life more difficult than it would be otherwise.

The problem is that there is not a lot of persons around me that is willing to give me a fashion tip when I ask for it. Some of my friends are not better than I am, so they tend to value me in my strange look. They feel like if they gave me fashion tips, they would ruin the effect. Never mind the fact that this is insulting - it is also somewhat crippling to my fashion sense. When I was a child, I liked to dress like a slob, but I'm sick of it now. All I would need is a tip on fashion accessories, how to match pants and shirts, and various other basic things once in a while. A few fashiontips would be nice even if I am not asking for a guidebook.
